Cafe Interior Design | McNally Jackson Books Cafe | Manhattan | New York City | Front Studio Architects

McNally Jackson Books, the largest independent booksellers in downtown Manhattan, wished to re-conceptualize the café and seating area as a place evocative of literature. The realized space creates visceral connections to the act of reading in each programmatic function. Folding desks carved from walnut in the shape of books are easily stored against the back wall when not in use. Suspended books intertwined with bare bulbs intrigue the passer-by as they cast a romantic play of shadow and light. A clever trompe d’oeil wallpaper surrounds the café in the rustling pages of literature......more

Office Interior Design | Dropbox | Rapt Studio

Dropbox The magic of Dropbox is it allows you to work anywhere, using a nearly invisible interface. But the company’s 300,000-square-foot physical offices couldn’t be invisible. The space needed deliberate visual cues to support collaboration among the company’s many teams.

The solution: a bustling city layout based on landmarks, neighborhoods, and shared community values.

The neighborhood concept grew out of the discovery phase, when Rapt Studio learned a major source of frustration at the old office was that most workspaces were situated in narrow hallways — making collaboration difficult, disruptive, or both. So they created distinctive neighborhoods flanked by portals and meeting rooms to align with the needs of different departments. Groups of 40 to 50 people could create their own company subcultures based on their collective personalities, from quiet and industrious engineers to more social, vocal marketers......more

Eyewear Shop Interior Design | JINS | Tokyo | Schemata

JINS, one of the biggest eyewear brands in Japan, commissioned Schemata Architects to design the renewal of their Ageo shop on the occasion of its 12th anniversary. The existing shop consists of two L-shaped blocks, respectively an eyewear shop and a cafe, positioned around a square courtyard surrounded by an open corridor serving as a cozy outdoor cafe space. However, the existing building was clad in wooden panels and the courtyard and the cafe were hidden from the street. We removed the exterior walls and installed Low-E paired glass to initiate the view towards the beautiful courtyard from the street, while creating an impressive display of their extensive eyewear products highly visible from the street at the same time.

The interior design was intended to emphasize the effect of exposing the skeleton of the building. New interior walls are offset from the original wall lines, finished with brick tiles usually used for exterior finishes; shelves and display furniture are designed as independent elements detached from the building. Eyewear products vary in shapes and colors, and we collaborated with the graphic design office KIGI to introduce visual elements in the shop so that the products and the space can relate to each other in a free and independent way......more

Shop & Office Interior Design | Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten Omotesando | Tokyo | Schemata

" At first I was pleasantly surprised to discover this land filled with such lush greenery in Aoyama, in the middle of Tokyo. I wanted to provide the same kind of pleasant surprise to customers of this shop, both on the first and second floors. The building stood there, simple and open towards the existing greenery, and seemed to harmonize with the vitality of the land. Respecting such surrounding environment, we tried to minimize the infill construction and composed the interior with furniture instead.

The site is located at a certain distance from the busy district, and we needed to come up with a different design from their previous shop-in-shop style. In addition, they are hoping to make necessary modifications as they go along.

Our solution was to design display units based on standard modules that can be moved and assembled freely. In order to avoid a monotonous appearance, we placed clear acrylic units in / on wooden units irregularly, while deliberately breaking a sense of stability to a certain degree. Such irregular breaks in the visual sequence create different impressions of displayed products, according to viewpoints.

There is a traditional Japanese gardening concept of the “borrowed scenery”, or using the surrounding natural scenery as the background. In the second floor office,we wanted not only to“borrow” the surrounding greenery as the background, but also tried to integrate it with the interior space by planting trees on the desks, thanks to the great help from Seijun Nishihata......more

Clinic Interior Design | Clinic Valencia | Spain | Jaime Sepulcre Arquitecturas

There was an initial desire that to reach a space in continuity and at the same time enveloping. And we had the reality of a corner apartment that invited to be established the classic duality between a central space servant of distributions and a perimeter served with the functional rooms. In this way a continuum of sinuous space - curvilinear - is organized that brings together the reception, waiting room and circulations, from which you can access the cabinets and other specialized rooms that live on the entire facade and also the patio inside.....more

Dental Clinic Interior Design | Dental Clinic Raquel Gómez | Burgos | Spain | Jaime Sepulcre Arquitecturas

The project consisted of the remodeling of an old clinic to transform it into a contemporary and organic space. The argument responds to the metaphor between the gum and the teeth, so that the central space of connections - the "gingival space" - is pink and the cabinets are white spaces. The project also plays with the rediscovery of the centenary structure of the building whose twelve wooden pillars now appear skipping the different spaces and contrast with curved glass divisions that give the clinic the sought after fluidity and continuity of their spaces......more

Hotel Interior Design | Hotel Puro | Palma de Mallorca | OHLAB

Puro is an iconic 22 room boutique hotel located in the heart of La Lonja, in the historical center of Palma.

Adapting itself to the different existing buildings, the hotel has an irregular configuration. The refurbishment project by OHLAB takes advantage of that complexity as a potential tool to generate unexpected and unique spaces where each room is different from each other. The project solves every room with individualized and unique layouts and solutions. The selection of natural and local materials emphasizing the Mediterranean essence has been very important. Another important focus has been the conception of the bathrooms as spaces for pleasure, spacious and integrated with the bedrooms, with generous, sculptural and freestanding bathtubs placed in the bedrooms just as another piece of furniture......more

Restaurant Interior Design | Les Tablettes de Nomicos | Paris | Atelier Du Pont

Just a stone’s throw from the Place Victor Hugo, Jean-Louis Nomicos has opened his first restaurant in this establishment formerly run by Joël Robuchon. Decked out in new finery, Nomicos’s Les Tablettes serves cuisine from the south. To provide the perfect setting for his sun-kissed flavours, the interior draws inspiration from the form and texture of a basket, in a metaphor that is threaded and braided : interlaced strips of walnut cover the walls and ceiling, weaving a vault over the diners’ heads. Corseted by a backlit canvas, the flexible ribbons of light-grey wood let through slivers of light, giving this strange covering the appearance of a starry sky. The vast wall-mounted mirror, and the stainless steel framing the three alcoves, reflect ad infinitum this warm, abstract environment. Silver-grey carpet, orange-leather wall seats, muffled footsteps, and mellow muted voices set the tone in this original and enchanting restaurant, ideal for fans of starry skies and/or Michelin-starred chefs. The entire project, from the initial contact to the restaurant’s opening just before Christmas 2010, was completed in eight and a half weeks........more
